6. Well according to recent history,
the Yanks are the last team to repeat. The Phils have one starter with an ERA below 5; this may be an off year for them.

Anyhow another late season collapse may let Philly into the playoffs.

You can depend on us to win the World Series once every 65 years.

12. They're playing very well against teams .500+ from last year.
They're 7-4 against Houston, Arizona, and Philly. The other 25 games are against COL, SD, SF, ans WAS. I'm not convinced these numbers will hold up, though they do have some emerging stars.

13. Their season all depends on the starting pitching
Wolf and Bills have both been great, but can Weaver step up and help? Will Kuroda come back and pitch like last regular season?

14. Yea, I realize the Giants can't hit, but their starters are good enough that
they do not belong in the same category as the fricken Rockies, Padres and Nationals.

15. They are 28th in Runs scored and 3rd in runs allowed.
They're improved over last year more than the other three, but they're still allowing more runs than they score despite being 2 games over .500 at this point.

The Giants needed a bat or two in the offseason, but instead they spent something like $15 million on a 46 year old starter with an ERA approaching 6. Bengie Molina is a fine catcher and good hitter, but he's not a major league cleanup hitter, and until they address this, they'll be lucky to hang around .500.

16. Again, I don't need a rundown on the weakness of my team,
especially from yet another Boston fan.

I understand what you are saying.

But they also own the NL Cy Young winner, 3.25 ERA, their number three starter has an ERA of 3.00 and their number four starter has an ERA of 3.89.

Their bullpen is shaky. Their stopper is inconsistent.

And their offense is hit and miss, but mostly undependable to say the least.

But they're also puting together one of those teams that if they get in the postseason, they can be deadly dangerous when you can use your top three pitchers only.

They still need some bats.

But my point is they are not in the same category as the Colorados and San Diegos and Washingtons.

17. Unfortunately, they put together one of those teams
that won't get into the postseason, even in the division they're in. Ask Matt Cain what an ERA under 4 is worth, for him it's been 15-30 in '07 and '08.

I don't know exactly what category you think I'm putting them in. The Giants were a .500 or under team last year, just like the Rockies, Padres and Nats. If the starters somehow drag the rest of the team kicking and screaming into the playoffs, it's going to be despite the best efforts of their front office, too.

18. I know what category you're puting them in. You're puting them
in the 102-loss Nationals and 99 game-loss Padres and 88 game-loss Rockies category from last year, and you're doing it now to irritate me.

Those teams are well on their way to finishing that way again this year, while the Giants were about 11 games below 500 near this time last year, and are currently two games over playing a better opponent in the Mets.

I prefer to judge teams on how they're doing this season, as opposed to the ret*ard method like trumad invented in all he does.

You're acting Red Sox superior, and it's ridiculous to continue intentionally placing the Giants in the same category as COL, SD & WAS despite all of the reasons I've laid out why they should not.

You, like Will Pitt, need to climb down from your Boston high horse.

23. The Giants ARE in the same category...
Is the category "Teams that finished under .500 last year"? YES. Did the Giants finish under .500 last year? Is there a reason I'm using last years record instead of this years record? Yes, because last year is a much larger sample where all teams played essentially the same schedule as opposed to the 30+ games each team has played this year against opponents of varying quality. It's just an added bonus that it seems to piss you off and makes you keep kicking a thread with this title.

The Giants aren't as bad as COL, SD, and WAS (as I've already said), but then I put PHI, HOU, and ARI in the same category too, and I don't think HOU and ARI are of the same quality as Philly either. I'm sorry if my grouping system isn't too your liking, or if your reading A LOT more into this than I'm actually saying. I'm still trying to figure out what high horse I'm on, and you've laid out NO reasons that SF wasn't under .500 last year or that I should consider them anything more than a potential .500 team this year. I was pointing out that LA has a good record against teams over .500 from last year, but has played a vast majority of it's games against teams that finished under .500 last year. SF is one of those teams.

21. This is why I suffer when I listen to sports radio .. it's the non-stop
parade of ridiculous comments -- the Giants finished below .500 with the Nationals, even though the Giants didn't lose 102 games, but yet they should be placed in the same crappy team category :eyes:

22. Actually, all sports fans should do it.
Kind of one of my pet peeves when people say "we" like they're part of the team. I hate when I catch myself doing it. :)

It's kind of an extension of the thinking that if a team one roots for does good that makes the fan good, too. Like pitbull owners thinking that having a tough dog makes them a tough guy.

It's amazing I like sports at all sometimes.
