LOL!!! Pitt fans angry Bill Cowher supported Hurricanes over Penguins

Former Steelers coach Bill Cowher has earned the enmity of many Pittsburgh fans after publicly lining up behind the Carolina Hurricanes in their NHL semifinal series against the Penguins.

Cowher cranked the Hurricanes' pre-game siren, a team ritual, prior to their loss to the Penguins in Game 4 on Tuesday. That earned him scorn in the Steel city, where he led the Steelers for 15 years and to a title in Super Bowl XL.

"I think he's a traitor to our city," a Pittsburgh fan told KDKA TV. "I never did like him." (See the video here.)

Cowher, a North Carolina resident since leaving Pittsburgh, has supported the Hurricanes throughout their postseason run. But taking a stance against the Steelers (Cowher is a Pittsburgh-area native) has drawn special notice.

"I remember him as a guy from Pittsburgh, so it's a little disappointing, maybe, to see him there, but that's fine," Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

But Pittsburgh fans have been less generous in their assessment.

"I don't like it," Kyle Patton told the Tribune Review. "We love Bill Cowher, but when you look at him, you think black and gold, not red."

If there's compassion left in Pittsburgh fans' hearts, Cowher may be looking for a way back in. He told the Tribune Review he'd support the Penguins if they eliminated the Hurricanes (which they did).

"I'll take this white (Carolina rally towel) and replace it with a gold one," he said. "Absolutely. I'm an Eastern Conference guy. Whichever of these teams comes out, I'll be pulling for them.

2. He wemt to college at North Carolina State and he lives
there.

He was most likely invited by the team to participate and he did.

Nothing wrong with it.

4. Yes, he has ties to both areas ..He was still a teenager when he
moved to North Carolina to go to college.

Frankly, if it were me, I'd be a Penguins fan.

But if he didn't grow up rooting for them and caring about them like I would have, what are you going to do?

6. How does that fit with expansion teams or those that moved to where you are.
The Carolina Canes are a perfect example. What is your ruling on that?

They were actually the Whalers. BTW, I used to go to Gordie Howes restaurant in glastonbury when he was playing for the Whalers. Do you remember that??

8. Dumb question.
And I have no idea where glastonbury is.

Is that near St. Olaf, Minnesota or closer to St. Gustaf?
