Anybody for Haiku?
Over in the election forum somebody posted a Haiku thread and it was fun--became a kind of abstract dialogue when reading the stream of posts. Doesn't need to be political, but can be. Anybody up for trying it here?

------------------------
From early January thread (link below)
What is Haiku: Haiku is one of the most important forms of traditional Japanese poetry. Haiku is, today, a 17-syllable verse form consisting of three metrical units of 5, 7, and 5 syllables.
(doesnt have to be exact, you get the idea)

Democracy cried
thumbs twiddled, eyes abated
hearts hiding, what now

1. O.K.
Blue skies ... cold sunshine
Naked trees in the forest ....
Dogs barked.... winter's here.

I used that in 9th grade 11th grade and a freshman english class ... lol

Like a final scream
From a dying mother earth,
The loon's mournful cry.

Thirty-nine degrees
Icy winds blow in sunshine
Florida winter

Little Cat thunder
Pitter patter paws thumping
Up and down the halls

6. LOL
It's all a matter of perspective. It was in the high seventies here yesterday, so 39 feels damned cold. But, believe me, I'll take a Florida winter over a New York winter ANY DAY!

:D

7. My favorites to date have been
You must scatch me there
Yes there! Right above my tail!
Elevator butt (cat haiku)

Beware of earthquakes
Little bedfellow cricket
I'm turning over

I'd also suggest a slight tweaking of yours:

Democracy died
News absent, eyes averted
No hope left, what now?

One of my favorite daily sites. Progressive haikus all the way, not just hilarious, but incredibly perceptive: www.dailyhaiku.com

here are a couple of unfunny ones:

They were called
those who would undermine Democracy
but they stood anyway

15. Winter Storm Haiku
Wrote this yesterday...

white wind scours the earth
trees dance naked, proud and free
purified, pristine

Rewrote it today (I am constitutionally unable to look at anything I've written without rewriting it):

white wind scours the earth
purified, pristine trees dance
naked, proud and free

Deaf me, I voted
A provisional ballot
One voice, rejected

Deaf me went marching
Two hands yelled their own protest
Above the chanting

Orange scarf flapping
A long third arm in cold wind
Echoing anger.

Later, I’m standing
Subway lurching, arm upstretched
Fingers curled silent.

My small mouth opens.
I howl. People stare. I smile.
I, too, am noisy.

in a Diebold machine

Nuclear winter
this season is coming soon
let us all thank Bush

I hear Sponge Bob's gay
what moran watches him and
thinks of cartoon sex

A haiku for Zell
he is a wolf in sheep's wool
Democrat in name

Mitt Romney's haiku
Oh please Utah take him back
pretty pretty please

Dick Cheney's haiku
an undisclosed location
hides a criminal

21. !!

Several years ago, I began the habit of writing haiku in two lines of ten and seven syllables. This allows for a more natural English sentence structure and still retians the basic idea of haiku.

A barefoot woman waters her front lawn
The rain goddess comes today.

The candidate's fundraiser is tonight
The streetwalker sells her wares.

Thought oh my he could be a she and then
Realized so could she that is

The Streetwalker could be a he not she
A young boy selling it like she
