Writers rant... anyone ever check out Chuck Palahniuk's website?


I like him, his films and books, his sense of humor and his ideas about writing. I've read some of his essays on writing and they are very practical. (http://www.chuckpalahniuk.net/workshops/cw/2005essays.p... ) But if I understand it, the only way to read the writing essays on his website is to fork out 60 bucks. I think that sucks. He will be releasing them in book form in 2006.

1. Simple solution: don't buy them.

If they're not worth to you what he wants for them, spend your money elsewhere. Send him an email that says you think he wants too much $$, and he lost a customer because of it.

2. It's not actually his site

It's a fan site which CP okays. There is a disclaimer at the bottom of the subscription page. I suspect it is really being run by some wiseass entrepreneur who conducts a writing class there and has Chuck do occasional essays and reviews of the dupes' -- I mean, the students' -- writing.

I agree, $60 is too much for something like that. But Palahniuk's input is minimal, and besides, too many other writers have written writing advice that's easily available and a lot easier on the finances.
