Escape!
I heard from a New York agent recently, and she told me that the morning after the election, she and some editors and publishers and other agents had a meeting to talk about what kind of books they're going to be looking for in the next four years.

The conclusion: escapist literature.

So... if any of you have a good escapist plot that you've been thinking about writing, now's the time to do it!

2. That's what I write
I write romance, and I'm just finishing a fantasy. At least, I will as soon as I turn off DU. I only have about five more pages to go.

3. I've had a weird idea floating around
about 6 or 7 unrelated coma victims scattered around the country who all come out of their coma on Inauguration day.

The catch is that each one upon waking is convinced that they are the reincarnated spirit of a different Founding Father. As they try to convince their doctors, families and friends that they are not crazy or brain damaged they end up coming together in their search for answers.

In their search to figure out what happened to them they end up drawing the interest of the US Justice Department. What was once a search for answers becomes a flight from a corrupt and totalitarian leaning administration and possibly a new fight for a nation's liberty.

Okay, so I haven't really done more than toss this around but does anyone think anything is there?

Don't steal my idea now! But if anyone might wants to collaborate, I do enjoy writing with a partner.

6. Wild!
I've always enjoyed speculating about what Founding Fathers would think of current day politics. You could have a freaking field day.

I'm afraid I don't work well with others, though.

Do it!

13. Are we on the same page or what? I have ben toying with that !
I write lyrics, poetry and working on a couple of projects.
I do have some ideas about the First Occupation....America !
Remember we took the land from the native americans and occupied and put them basically into what was supposed to be soverign but in actuality exile and poverty. I really think a lot about when all of those folks scream America was founded on christianity and I am a christian but face it ! The Native Americans believed in Nature and more Pagan than christianity in the early settling days. No ! America was not found. America was never lost, just occupied. Did we not do pretty much the same with Hawaii. Will Iraq be the 51st state? The same about Texas and Mexico. We have been doing this since we have been America. I also wonder aboutDorothy Day referring to a New World Order back in the 20's. How long has this been going on and forming?

My idea about how the founding fathers would react was like the 1st thought, Total Shock but then again, not sure if it WAS built on Freemasonry and secret societies. George Washington wore that apron from the Masons. My Dad was a mason and he still defends them. I don't.

10. Yeah...
Having both James and Dolly M allows for a strangely interesting love angle, particularly since they'll be complete strangers.

12. Been thinking of something similar....
Except I only had two coma folks, and it wasn't political related at all.

Weird!

Your idea sounds cool...for some reason it reminds me of The Dead Zone. Hmm.

7. I don't know if this counts as "escapist"
but one idea I had was a romance that takes place in the near future. America has been divided into two warring nations (bordered by Mississippi River, maybe?). Anyway, one half is ruled by hard-nosed Fundie types, personified by their leader, a charismatic but very bigoted preacher. The other half is more of a free-spirited society, peaceful by nature, simply wanting to live and let live.

My idea is to do something along the lines of "Aida". The son of the head of the Fundieville (not the real name, but you know) military is engaged to the daughter of the ruling preacher man. One day, during a routine invasion into Freeland (again, not real name), they capture a bunch of students and take them captive, bringing them back into slavery in Fundieville. Unbeknownst to them, one of the students is the (openly gay) son of the President of Freeland, and he's trying to keep a low profile because he knows if they found out who he was, he'd be in deep shit. So, of course, the son of Freeland's president meets with the son of the Fundieville military leader, and they become interested in each other, much to the Fundieville guy's surprise and chagrin. They eventually fall in love, and a whole set of complications ensue.

What do you think? Cheesy, workable? Ideas?

8. I think it's very workable
The key will be to create a viable back history of the separation of the nation. It's certainly easier to envision the fracturing of this nation these days. Just extrapolate out from the division we have now...
