Submissions Sought | please spread the word....
I have decided that the time and conditions are right to go forward with something I have dreamed of doing for more than a decade.

I'm going to edit/publish a literary/opinion journal. I will bring 20 years of professional experience in graphic design, typesetting and magazine/newspaper production to the project.

Initially, at least, I will publish the journal through my cafepress store (which means I will have virtually no 'up front' costs). The first volume will be in a 5x8 format, saddle-stitched or perfect-bound with full color front/back covers.

*preliminary* cover designs:

What am I looking for?

Poetry, short fiction, rants, cartoons (must work in B/W format), reviews of current books, brief essays.

I want to stay away from very LONG pieces so that readers can get through one or two pieces during a commute, a lunch break, etc.

Stay away from stories/themes that have a short 'shelf life.' Submissions do NOT have to focus solely on partisan politics, international, environmental, cultural issues are also welcome.

PLEASE DO NOT POST SUBMISSIONS ON THIS THREAD

Send submissions, or a query with writing sample to: IQuestionW@aol.com I will respond as quickly as possible.

I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT IF YOU WOULD REPOST THIS ON OTHER BOARDS OR CIRCULATE IT TO WRITERS GROUPS, ETC. THIS IS NOT PLANNED TO BE A DU-EXCLUSIVE PROJECT.

I hope to put together the "Inagural" edition to appear in January. If the project is successful, I will pursue distributing copies to indy bookstores and other outlets and may decide to move production out of cafepress and into a more 'legit' option.

Payment will be contributor's copies and contributors will have the option of purchasing additional copies at cost.

PLEASE KICK. Thanks!

11. Regarding fiction.
Would you be interested in the first part of novels? Or works in progress?

12. sure.
as long as it 'stands alone'

there's a great tradition of publishing excerpts from works-in-progress.

13. Is this project still a go?
I'll add it to my markets folder and spread the word. I have a website about journaling, and a lot of my readers are interested in becoming freelancers, so this may be an option for them.

Thanks,

Geneva T
