Question for Orrex, On his Lunchbreak

I didn't want to post commentary in your thread which seems dedicated to serializing the story.

My writing instructor often asked us to think about the "universe" that our stories took place in. So my question is, in the universe of that story, are wizards unusual? unbelievable? routine?

It seems that the characters accept the normalness of the existence of wizards. Wouldn't it add a lot more dramatic tension of wizards and their acts were at least somewhat unbelievable or incredible, and if the characters responded with awe or wonder at what the wizard could do?

I envision them as unusual but not so far-out as to be truly unbelievable. Kind of like a highly skilled musician or athlete, maybe.

And I'm actually hoping to downplay the wonder and awe, making him seem a more mundane and, in some ways, a more pitiable character.

power but uses it sparingly and for nothing really important.
