Amazon Kindle
Is anyone here familiar with Amazon's new wireless reading device? More specifically, self-publishing via Kindle?

http://dtp.amazon.com

I just stumbled onto it yesterday and hadn't heard of it before. At first glance it seems to me like a potential revolution that could open the doors to writers who are shut out of the current publishing world. I've never been a fan of self-publishing, but this looks different to me.

I thought it sounded great, but my partner was immediately suspicious of Amazon's profit vs. authors' and pretty much dashed my hope and enthusiasm.

Does anyone here know anything about it? Or if you haven't heard of it either, take a look and let me know what you think.

1. So, no opinions on this, then?
Is it because no one's ever heard of it, or everybody heard about it ages ago and I'm late to the party?

2. Sorry!
I know nothing about it whatsoever, so I was deferring to the many who likely know more than I.

However, I admit that I have a sort of kneejerk "no way!" reaction to the thought of self-publication in any form, even though rationally I know that view is kind of nuts.

3. I have that reaction too, generally
But this method seems so much more efficient, with virtually no upfront cost, and a guaranteed platform from which to offer it for sale that it intrigues me.

Maybe I'm just so discouraged by the endless rejections that I'm willing to grasp at any straw. :(

I think I'll take this subject to the lounge to discuss it from a reader's perspective, because I still think it's a neat gadget.

Thanks for the response, Orrex. :hi:

4. Don't know enough about it
What's the difference between the Kindle and the established ebook readers?
