I'm taking a playwriting class!

Three weeks ago, I started a playwriting class with a local professional theatre.

Playwriting is something I've thought a lot about over the years but never really understood how to go about it. The instructor is really wonderful, going over the nitty gritty of what elements make up a good script. And he has us writing our little fingers off too! I've written two scenes so far. He says by the time we finish in the next five classes, we will have a one act play written.

Will you be able to share any of your writings here, or do you consider your work in that class to be proprietary?

As I mentioned in The Lounge, I benefited tremendously from a scriptwriting course a few years ago, in large measure because it forced me to be aware of my writing in a way that I hadn't been previously. I suspect that playwriting will offer a similar benefit.

In any case, post a scene, certainly! I don't have much experience critiquing plays, but I would indeed be genuinely interested in reading yours!

I like reading plays and went through a period in my high school years where I read a lot of them.
