Is fan fiction admissible here?
Or is it frowned upon?

I have a story idea I want to develop. Just for kicks.

1. That's a good question
From the Group's mission statement:
The DU Writing Group provides a place where writers can assemble, present, and critique original content...

If it's something that you've written, rather than someone else's work, then I would think it's okay to post. However, since we occasionally here about efforts to crack down on fan fiction based on copyrighted material (e.g., The Harry Potter online lexicon), then perhaps DU would have a liability concern.

Hmm...

I say post it. If it's a problem, then it'll get locked or deleted. And Skinner will seize your property and garnish your wages.

2. Well, having written fanfic (as others here have)
so long as you post a disclaimer about the original characters and who owns them, you should be mostly in the clear. A site like fanfiction.net likely wouldn't exist if every creator and their publishers' lawyers had any real problem with it.

3. Yeah, but you're a weirdo

Just kidding, of course! :pals:

Good point about fanfiction.net. Since I'm not an aficionado of the genre, that site was news to me.

4. The weirdness is due to my public radio background
and being a Rev. in the Church of the SubGenius :P

fanfiction.net has a companion site, too, called FictionPress.com
No fanfic is allowed on that one; only original stories and poetry :)
