I hate it when something like this happens
Well for the last few weeks I've been having dreams, of a game I used to play (and write for) So here I am going... obviously the material is there, and it is screaming to come out. So I have a choice, write fanfic, that WILL NEVER see the light of day, or plain out DEVELOP a whole new world, universe if you will, out of whole cloth, where the THEME can be developed.

And yes kiddies I could do this in the Future Nexus World, but it is time to move from that place too... so here I am, literally doing all the damn prewriting for a whole new world. Some elements will have to remain in some ways, but all else will have to change. There are reasons for that, many reasons. I just hate it when that happens. Especially when in my mind I'd put all that behind me...

1. So try a little mapping and if it gels, it's unfinished business you were meant to back to, yes?
I thought you working on a book about the history of labor. I know many writers can work on more than one thing at a time, I'm just not one of them.

2. Yea I am still writing that, well readying into it and
for the moment working on SHORT essays to try to sell to places like the Nation, or Mother Jones. There is a veritable wealth in there... and some of this may even go into a new universe. I mean not like the economy would change in the far future, to a point. Or the need to have cheap labor, to a point.

3. I had a similar issue with a novel I started last summer (and one which is currently stalled).
The basic idea, which I got after seeing the new Star Trek movie last year, was that it was set 200+ years into the future of that alternate Star Trek time line. Would have been an awesome fan fic, but it would never, ever have found a marketable audience in its form. So, I tweaked what needed to be tweaked and began the process of creating an entire universe off this once unmarketable idea.

Now, all I have to do is get myself motivated to writing again...

4. Oh there are many tweaks that I have to do
by the way, you need a space database for planets and solar systems?

I run Chview on my netbook. No silly thing would not run a "real program" like NBOS Astrosyntheis

So I do this with what I can do it.

5. Develop a New World
Edited on Tue Jun-01-10 09:24 PM by Ozymanithrax
I think Future Nexus world was good, but developing a new world will take that stuff demanding to be let out of your head and twist in ways that you can't conceive. You will be forced to take things in a different direction.

So here is my suggestion:
Develop a new universe with a government and culture that is the opposite of Future Nexus.
When you have to sit a make and choice, choose to go elsewhere.

My current project "The Jungian Gate" is the best thing I've done and departs in big ways from other stuff.

So yes, boldly go where Future Nexus could never go.
