Academic writing
yes I know I am telling a story... but damn going back to the well and I fear my passive voice obsession (That is how I was trained to write history) will come back. And that ain't a good thing for fiction. Then again I have been writing fiction long enough that I might be able to avoid it. Oy.

But what can I say... the don't will have to be replaced with do not.

I also need to find a balance. After all I do not want to write exclusively for... specialists. That is the damn problem. most of the real juicy stuff is written for specialists.

1. No way to generalize the language to widen the audience?
Fusing the genres might be out of my league, but I'd bet within your resourceful reach.

2. It's really no different than voice, is it?
I mean if you can look at it as finding a voice appropriate to the work, then getting back to your proper fiction voice might come easier.

But, worst case scenario, you can always use Word to find the passive and annihilate it. After a whole day of doing that, my writing always improves for at least a substantial period of time.

3. Well it is a very different style
though I am doing both, so I have not noticed that much of an issue, so far.

Will start doing some academic this afternoon... been working on a real bear of an outline.
