Anyone else have their book uploaded to
http://www.authonomy.com? It's an amazing site where authors upload their books and a large community of readers vote up the ranking of the books by "backing" them. Authors gain points for their books calculated by the good "spotting" record of the readers who "back" them. Readers get a higher ranking if they "back" a book that goes up in ranking, based on the number or readers who back it and the "good spotter" rankings of those readers. So readers are encouraged to find undiscovered gems that will catch on with other readers, especially the highly ranked readers. The payoff for authors is (1) people are reading their books and commenting on them and (2) the five highest ranked books at the end of the month will be reviewed by editors at Harper Collins International, which runs the site as an alternative to the usual slushpile.
It's amazing how quickly you can rise in the rankings with a good pitch and nice cover art. You don't need to have a cover already made but it helps and I had created a pretty snazzy one beforehand just for fun. I posted the first four chapters of my novel on Friday morning and already it's ranked 14th in the weekly chart for the genre of science fiction. Overall, it went from a rank of around 7700 to 2766 in that time. Worth a look.
