Ever worked at a small publisher?

I got a lead for a partnership with a startup publisher. I've never done anything like that before, but I've looked at it and it seems to have potential. I'm only in preliminary email with the sole owner right now. He's working a day job, but says he needs a partner to take it further. It seems to be a legit business from what I see so far.

The present owner is a genre fan and wants to have this full time as his job, but he has no publishing experience. What he's done so far has been very small scale. I have the background, professionally speaking, just not with a startup house. What should I be looking for? What kinds of questions/issues would you be looking to research?

and ask about leads, market plan, and where he or she intends to go to find markets... as well as how they plan to work with writers.
