Last night, the U.S. House of Representatives again thumbed its nose at compassion and common sense by rejecting the Hinchey-Rohrabacher amendment, which would have prohibited the federal government from undermining state medical marijuana laws. The final vote was 163 for / 259 against. This year there were two more “yes” votes than last year, a sign that support is slowly growing. (Since three Representatives who voted for the amendment last year couldn’t make the vote this year, the base of support is actually up five over last year).
Below is a breakdown. I did not list the Republicans that didn’t vote for Hinchey-Rohrabacher or the Democrats that did vote for this resolution because except for the following the Republicans voted against it and the Democrats voted for it. Below are the exceptions.
The Republicans that voted for Hinchey-Rohrabacher this year are:
Bartlett (MD) Beauprez (CO) Burton (IN) (voted No last year) Campbell (CA) (voted No last year) Flake (AZ) Garrett (NJ) (voted No last year) Gilchrest (MD) Johnson (CT) Johnson (IL) LaTourette (OH) (voted No last year) Otter (ID) Paul (TX) Porter (NV) Rehberg (MT) Rohrabacher (CA) Royce(CA) Simmons (CT) Tancredo (CO)
Republicans who did not vote:

These Republicans were gained this year Burton(IN), Garrett (NJ), Campbell(CA), LaTourette (OH).
This Republican voted for it last year but he voted against it this year – Simpson (ID)
