I got a response from the Department of Transportation
--

This is in regard to the mandatory testing of those with a Commercial Drivers License.

Here is the question:

---

Hello,

Do you consider the urine testing for metabolites leftover in the body, due to marijuana use, as an accurate "under the influence" test?

---

Here is the response:

Thank you for your e-mail to the Department of Transportation's Office of Drug and Alcohol Policy and Compliance. In order to better respond to your question, please provide me with some additional information regarding your situation.

I look forward to your response.

So how would you respond?
I don't have a "situation".
It is a YES or NO answer.

1. Just tell them you are doing some personal research and the answer

does not seem to be clear.

3. From their point of view they might think you are a lawyer trying

to get info to clear someone, or someone trying to game the system, so their gut reaction may be to delay or dissuade you.

If you could have a reason for doing personal research, say, you are taking a psych class and they talked about the effects of drugs in the bloodstream, and who that might effect, and someone mentioned DOT, and you did some reading on how they test, and that caused you to have a couple of questions so you can write your paper...

5. Here is my return response

I'll keep you posted:

Thank you for returning my email.

I am currently taking a Psychology Class where we have been discussing the affects of drugs in the bloodstream.
Someone mentioned the DOT and I did some research on your website and found section 40.87 of the 49 CFR Part 40 and subsequent cutoff chart.
As part of a school paper I am writing I was wondering if these cutoff levels indicate intoxication or "under the influence"?

Thank you
