Cannabis comedown
http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,3604,1447013,00.html

Some statistics don't do anybody any favours, and here's one of them. Since it was reclassified from class B to class C (i.e. it's been downgraded) at the beginning of last year, cannabis has lost its lustre, especially for the young.

This is bad news for those lobbying to reverse the classification. It's bad news for people selling the drug, who are now caught in the classic Tory conundrum - if you don't attract new blood, all your supporters will eventually die. It's not even terribly good news for marijuana lovers, since nobody likes to see their poison of choice consigned to the dustbin of drug history.

So much for decriminalising drugs making them more popular...

It's more a case of "the forbidden fruit tastes sweeter" here in Limeyland

2. It is not a very good article
The best part of the whole thing is what is presented here. He takes a light-hearted approach which is fine, but it he really has nothing worth saying after the above.

It will just cease to be an experimental adventure and healthy pot users and medicinal pot users will puff away in peace.

6. It hasn't been decriminalized
And in some places (scotland), the law is enforced as of old, and
some newspapers still print that it is a class "B" drug, as if being
owned by tories gives you the right to distort the law.

The problem is that several million british citizens are still
criminalized for pursuing their nonviolent daily lives; that persons
who grow and help supply those millions, the home gardeners if you will,
are deeply criminalized... and not much has changed. In all honestly,
the posession laws in the UK are outright draconian compared to most
US states.

Leaving enforcement up to the police force, has made a situation where
some police assholes are out there in the face of cannabis users and
others not really bothering... and the result is total inconsistency
within the law. Really they should advise tourists to be careful in
rural areas where the country cops are poorly educated about cannabis.
