Pot Shrinks Tumors; Government Knew in '74
Edited on Mon May-17-10 04:29 PM by WhoIsNumberNone
http://www.alternet.org/story/9257

In 1974 researchers learned that THC, the active chemical in marijuana, shrank or destroyed brain tumors in test mice. But the DEA quickly shut down the study and destroyed its results, which were never replicated -- until now.

The most mind-blowing part of this story is in paragraph 4- The government actually funded the 1974 experiments, but it didn't yield the results they were looking for. Guess what happened next?

1. More Nixon
He hated hippies and he hated their drugs of choice. He focused the full fury of his paranoid personality against college kids, hippies, and everybody else who told him his war was wrong.

That war has pretty much continued unabated ever since he left in disgrace.

5. The ironic truth is...
The damage inflicted by Richard Nixon's personality--and those with similar personalities--is
so much more harmful than the mood of someone who is high.

Narcissists, sociopaths and other dysfunctionals should not be dictating policy for
our world.

4. This is truly old news, in the cannabis policy arena and here at DU.
The Alternet author gives himself too much credit for "discovering" the suppression of the UVA research on the cancer-fighting properties of cannabis and releasing that information "for the first time." That suppression has been well-known (and widely discussed) for some time now. Doesn't make it any more right though.

Here's a DU thread from last year on the same topic, based on a major review of the cancer-fighting properties of cannabis released by NORML in June '09 that also discussed the UVA research.
