New York City substitute teaching question
My niece has a regular teaching certificate (elementary) for the state of New York. She
has never taught before and hopes to substitute. Since she has the regular certificate will she
have to get another substitute certificate in order to work? Am aware that the B of E for NY City
has different requirements for substitutes than the state of NY.
Any information would help. Thanks a million. z

1. Try posting this question here:
http://edwize.org/

My guess is that whatever is more time consuming, pointless, redundant and circuitous is what she will have to do ( i.e. she'll have to get another license) but it is only an educated *guess*.

People who have been thru the process more recently would be able to tell you for sure.

2. Thanks PaulHo, At this point i agree with you fully.
She is in the process of getting "substitute" certification from Albany, but it is taking forever to process.
To me this sounds ridiculous. (I taught forty years in four states and never have heard of having to get a special
substitute certificate if one already is certified to teach in the state.) Further more, if the state of New York doesn't
require a special substitute certificate (outside of NY City) what are they going to do? Print up a special one? (I jest.)
The site you recommended is a good one. Perhaps someone will give a straight answer. Thanks again. z
