6 to 10 inches of snow expected tomorrow. So there's a good chance we'll be out the rest of the week. Record breaking cold and several of our schools have broken water pipes.
They still haven't cleared the streets of the snow that fell on Christmas Day.
Monday is a teacher work day so we may not see our kids until a week from today.
Never in all my years teaching have we had a winter this bad.

2. It's completely missing southeast Michigan..... |
|
It's been quite cold of late, but I'd be shocked if we've had 3 inches of snow total for this season.

7. And it seems like we have had more snow in ten days than we normally have all winter |

17. That's because it all got dumped here, in Southwest Michigan 24" to date! |
|
it has snowed lake effect since last Friday and tomorrow system snow 5-7 inches starts with lake effect after that! I do love it though, and yes we had school today and will tomorrow, but Fri. is up for grabs.

I almost hate to tell you how mild it's been one state west of you. Stay warm! :hi:

6. Do you guys get out often for snow days? |
|
I have a friend who grew up in Denver and he said they never called off school due to weather.

8. It's more common here in the city, actually |
|
Back in the CO hinterland parents got really, really upset if school was called for anything less than an actual dead frozen student. :D
Here in Denver Mrs. Robb's been sent (or kept) home a handful of times this year. There's the whole transportation end of things in a big-honkin' district like this (70-odd schools, IIRC).

10. Just the opposite here |
|
The rural districts get out all the time but the city kids have to go to school. It's all about clearing the streets so the bus can pick up the darlings.

9. You described the winters of '77 and '78 when I was in high school. |
|
I grew up in the northeast Ohio snow belt.
We'd wake up every morning just long enough to hear Mom say "No school today," then fall back asleep.

11. Snow's not bad here...it just won't stop (Cleveland). |
|
Luckily, we're staying in the 20's for a while...which allows the stuff they put on the roads to work (when they bother to apply it).

12. I think you normally get more snow than we do |
|
We often have winters with just a few storms of only a few inches. There are school years when we have no snow days.

13. I'm not in the snow belt (the area SE of Lake Erie that gets tons of snow) |
|
but you're still right. We probably get at least 1 or 2 school closings in an average year.

16. Well, at least it will help recharge groundwater and give the winter wheat crop a nice drink. |
