I find the term "human capital" quite interesting, almost as interesting as MR's statement that teacher's should be held accountable like Lawyers and Doctors are? Really, so doctors are held accountable for all the "human errors" in medicine? Doctors are moved around from specialty to specialty and expected to be instant experts? And in Michelle Rhee's TFA universe an effective doctor can be trained in 6 weeks? We of course never ever want to think that the number of students one serves in one day has anything to do with one's performance. Nor do we want to consider the impact of no health care, no home, no food, gut wrenching poverty, on student learning. And I wonder, how many TFA grownups (I use that term loosely) would ever place their child in a classroom with with 35 -40 students and expect them to do as well as a classroom of 15 -20. I think ratio is used as a measure of ranking when comparing colleges. This is not meant to excuse poor teacher performance but please if we (And I do) want to improve the lives of children ignoring the elephant in the room (I'm not specifically referring to Ms. Rhee) is not helpful. Have I ever heard Ms. Rhee mention these factors and their devastating impact on children. And please no more brave bs from news commentators. How brave is it when you have a guarantee of 1/2 million dollars and no accountability. Please, not to mention the corporate media bent on breaking unions and acquiring the property of schools who report without verification the bee story, raising students test scores etc. And what about her role with KJ and covering up. What a brave hero this Ms. Rhee is?
