The U.S. Senate is voting TODAY on an amendment to reauthorize the Washington, D.C., private school voucher program.
Call 866/327-8670 today and ask your senator to Vote "NO" on the Lieberman (I-CT) Amendment to reauthorize the Washington, D.C., private-school voucher program.
The Lieberman Amendment seeks to extend an experimental voucher pilot that expired in 2008.
There is clear evidence that shows the private-school voucher program should not be reauthorized:
* The D.C. voucher program has proven to be flawed and ineffective, and there is no justification for continuing it for any new students.
* Several federal reports have documented the problems with the program and its lack of effectiveness, particularly in raising student achievement.
* Voucher students were less likely to have access to important services such as programs for English language learners, programs for students with learning problems, counselors, tutors and after-school programs.
Call toll free today: 866/327-8670! Urge your senator to vote "no" on the Lieberman Amendment.
We have an opportunity in the District of Columbia to make a real difference in the city's public schools. Resources and attention should be focused on providing quality education for all kids, NOT on private-school vouchers for just a select few.
In unity, The AFT
