Charter school advocates hope for bill to lift charter cap to get Race to the Top grants (NY)
Read the comments following the article:

As the state moves toward competing for round two of the federal Race to the Top grants, charter school advocates are hoping a compromise bill to lift the cap will sail through Albany.

Introduced in the Senate Friday, the bill calls for increasing the number of charter schools in the state from 200 to 460.

At the same time, the bill would increase the number of charter school students who have special needs or are learning English.

The charter cap is one reason the state lost out in the first round of Race to the Top.
