Walkout on phoney "public hearing" over Eva Moskowitz charter takeover of NYC public school space

watch the video

no public notice
no panel at front
no appropriate personnel
no official video

The leader of the public school faction asks where the public notice of the hearing was, & the officious little yuppie rep says in her best "you're a crazy idiot but i'll deign to answer" voice "There are different kinds of public hearings. The procedure is different."

Right, a different kind of public hearing -- of which the public isn't notified, gotcha, you silly little bootkissing twit.

1. +1000 -- I wish!
The unrecs will be here soon enough, but I got mine in anyway.

"silly little bootkissing twit" is far too nice.

3. smarmy sniveling class-bigoted ignorant little shit for brains?
I'm thinking of Jack Abramoff making kosher pizza. I'm thinking of Tony Hayward needing (and having access to) a yeaght race for escape from the dreariness of the Macondo gusher. I'm thinking of Rand Paul telling people just to get back to work.

They're sociopaths. Not blood-crazed psychopaths, but people who have really no understanding of any human existence outside their own. Tony Hayward wants his life back and he is so comfortable with his own importance in the world that he thinks nothing else matters to anyone else. It's all that matters to HIM, and isn't he all that matters?

Our little twit is on a par. She's locked herself quite securely and comfortably in her little compartment and she no longer has to consider what anyone else thinks, wants, needs or feels. It's all about HER.

As others have said, what a waste of skin.

4. lol! but...
Edited on Thu Jun-24-10 12:23 AM by Hannah Bell
i think what both of our descriptions fail to capture is how such a person simultaneously projects the aura of being:

1. disdainful of the class of persons she's dealing with
2. arrogant about her own intelligence/position, and
3. a lying, brownnosing, officious, conformist, money-grubbing, syncophant

is there a word for that special quality?

one that eva moskowitz also shares?

5. There isn't a word, and we NEED one.
A Barbara Bush/Marie Antoinette wannabe? Tony Hayward (or Dick Cheney) in drag?

But I do know exactly what you mean.

6. I think the word you are looking for is psychopath.
Either than or the "banality of evil" in the Arendt sense of the phrase.

Maybe it's time for a different word for them, since many of them are older now.

9. I did volunteer work for that creature ( Moskowitz) back in the 90s.
I think it was her first... maybe second run for city council. When she won she set up shop on the Education Committee and eventually became chair.

She was masquerading as a liberal democrat in those days. There should be a law against that sort of thing.

Love the clip. Democracy in Bloomberg's NYC... 2010. I wonder if there if there could be a connection between that ( i.e. sham public hearings to facilitate education privatization) and illegal police spying on dissidents, denial of demonstration permits and harassment of anti-war demonstrators that we saw early on in Bloomberg's tenure.

"'Cause it would be quite a coincidence if they weren't, you know, *connected*." ( Frances McDormand, FARGO)
