Detroit Public Schools chief is not renewed
Wow, I just posted recently that the Detroit Board had voted to renew Supe Gueyser's contract. Robert Bobb fired her anyway. This is all quite ugly.

Detroit Public Schools chief is not renewed
Gueyser's dismissal could stir up trouble

Detroit Public Schools Superintendent Teresa Gueyser's contract was not renewed Wednesday in a financial decision that will leave the district without a superintendent until Dec. 1.

<snip>

"Bobb does not have authority over the general superintendent. We expect her to come to work tomorrow, and we expect him not to interfere with her ability to do her job," board President Anthony Adams said.

<snip>

Gueyser's contract expired Wednesday, but the board contended that her contract automatically renewed because she was not properly notified of a non-renewal.

Bobb, appointed by the governor to oversee the DPS budget, maintains that he controls all hiring and personnel issues. In the termination letter, he wrote that on April 28, Gueyser was notified in writing that her contract was not going to be renewed.

"He needs to submit his resignation and get the hell out of town," Adams said of Bobb. "He's doing nothing to advance the district, other than create divisiveness in the community ... and increase the deficit."

2. It's amazing what is going on.
Every day it seems like something is completely reversed. What the heck are the students and teachers coming back to in the new school year?

Here is another snippet from another article:

Bobb, Board Fight Over Superintendent
DPS Board Battles Bobb To Reinstate Teresa Gueyser

Winfrey said that although Gueyser's $190,000 a year contract expired on Wednesday, he expected her top be at work Thursday.

Bobb, DPS Board At Odds Again

"I encourage her to show up. She is our superintendent," Winfrey said.

Bobb was asked what might happen if Gueyser does appear for work Thursday.

"Then she is at risk for not being paid," Bobb said.

Bobb now plans to hire a new superintendent in December.

So there is no money for Gueyser, but there *is* money for a Bobb pick in December. OK, if the district goes without a Supe for the intervening months they save on $100,000 or thereabouts. But if Bobb is in charge I'm guessing we're going to see a Broad Academy hire with no input from the School Board. :( Those Broad folks don't come cheap. I'll be interested to see what happens there.
