8. And she's not alone in what she says
As a teacher, have had heard the same observations from my colleagues. NCLB and tying a teacher's worth, as well as selective curriculum, to one diagnostic test, is disheartening when we work 10-16 hour days on behalf of the students, the community, and education at large.

9. So many good quotes!
Here is my favorite:

If we have people who are not educators running the system, they have to have data because they don't know anything about curriculum, they don't know anything about children, they don't know anything about how children learn, and they don't know anything about development. So they have to have data, because they don't know anything else.

I am tempted to make that my sig line for my school email. It would be interesting to see how Admin reacted.

10. We need a bumpersticker version of this...
Edited on Fri Aug-06-10 11:37 AM by YvonneCa
...quote. Something like:

"If non-educators run schools, they need data because they don't know anything about children."

And we need them on teachers' cars everywhere.

Edited to say that I say this as a person who supports accountability and *some* use of data...but we need a fair playing field in this debate.

11. How about
Learning is more than data

Let's test politicians

Test politicians, not students?

Politicians test because they can't teach.

Politicians: Testing instead of Teaching

15. Kick to suggest sharing this on your facebook page
They've got a button at the top of the page for each video, so it couldn't be easier.
