NYC DOE wants to publish teacher evals, but not a list of schools infested with bedbugs

A commenter on this post asked the following question:

Isn't it ironic that the DOE is so eager to post teacher ratings in the media, but they refuse to provide a list of the schools experiencing bedbug infestations? One would think that students, parents and teachers have an right of be in possession of this information for their own protection.

Just another example of Klein and Bloomberg putting children first.

With over 1,000 incidents last year and with bedbug incidents running even higher this year, if Bloomberg and Klein really cared about students and parents, they WOULD release the list.

But let's be honest - they don't really care.

I guess they're not out to bust the bed bug union, just the teachers unions.

1. Tourists are already avoiding New York over bedbugs scares.
The thought of all the kiddies walking around with bedbugs from school isn't going to help things any.

2. FERPA for students, exposure of personnel data for faculty
IN the days before the internet, posting student names and grades on bulletin boards was a way of getting test results back to students quickly. That became unpopular, then it became illegal with FERPA.

A minority of faculty felt it took away a motivator, the majority of faculty felt that shaming students did more harm than good.

Seems to me that the folks running the education establishment have not a clue about the values of education establishments, and wanting to take the nation back, about, 35 years.

The teacher evals are about busting the union and lowering costs ( We are in contract arbitration, BTW). Period.

Is there anyone on DU gullible enough to think that someone like Bloomberg ( estimated net worth 30 billion) *cares* about the welfare of families of public school kids?.

Does anyone really think he *ever* gives them a second thought... other than as a means to an end?
