…EGADS! Karen Lewis has a stalker or two! One of the most interesting things about covering news events is that you get to pay attention to the people in the back row who are trying to avoid your camera.
Sometimes they’re the biggest story, as Substance learned decades ago when we noticed a frumpy Chicago teacher at every anti-war event, supposedly on “our” side against the war but actually reporting for the Chicago Police Red Squad (which once upon a time shared Navy Pier offices with the Midwest branch of the CIA — Yes, Virginia, there is no Santa Claus, but the CIA did do domestic work, especially in Chicago, for which the ruling class always had a particular concern.)
Anyway, now, in 2011, this: For the past couple of months, it’s been clear that officials of the Chicago Public Schools have been stalking Karen Lewis, CTU President, sort of.
As the two photos accompanying this brief note show,
CPS intergovernmental affairs chief Eduardo Garza keeps popping up (and taking photographs) when the CTU organizers and event. On December 16, he was back benching at the Aurora hearings on Performance Counts. By December 29, he was standing in the cold making photographs on his camera phone at the CTU elected school board press conference. Maybe one day we can give him the Dick Elrod or Sheli Lulkin award. Those who remember that much history will get out point….
