CSAPN is talking about education
Snow day (hooray!) so I am watching CSPAN. It's been good so far. The guest is Jack Jennings, the CEO of the Center on Education Policy. He said he doesn't think NCLB will be renewed because Congress is too busy dealing with the economy. He also said it's a bad law with unrealistic expectations and it's forced us to misinterpret test score data. He's also quoted statistics about poor progress of charter schools and child poverty in the US. And discipline problems in urban schools. All things we have discussed here.

The vast majority of the callers have made great comments, supporting teachers and a couple speaking out against funding wars better than schools. The only bad call was from a grandfather who said we need standards for teachers as well as for kids because his grandchild (who is 14) told him her teachers are stupid. Every other caller made a reasonable point.

Nice way to start the week. Plus a snow day is always a good day. :)
