Need info from a California teacher
I have a question for you about the state credential database:

http://www.ctc.ca.gov/lookup.html

If a teacher did not renew a credential, would the old credential still appear on the database?

I'm looking at a person's record that says "Certificate of Clearance," but it doesn't show his credential, despite his claim that he has one.

Are there any CA teachers here who have let their credentials expire/lapse, but whose records still show the old information?

1. When I let my credential expire, it dropped off
the online database. However, I was able it renew it by paying a fee and providing a copy of the expired credential. The state does maintain the old records. If the person claims he has an expired credential, he should be able to provide you with his personal copy.

2. So your "Certificate of Clearance" still shows up, but not the credential?
I'm just verifying that it doesn't say something like, "Credential Expired." It just shows nothing?

Thanks for the response, LDA.

3. A "Certificate of Clearance" only means that the individual has
completed the fingerprinting and identification process mandated by the state prior to beginning student teaching. It does not mean the person has earned a teaching credential. If a person holds a California credential (active or expired) he or she received a copy of it. It is the responsibility of the credential holder to provide a copy of that credential to an employer.

Like I said if the applicant is credentialed, he ought to be able to produce the credential.
