Most teachers vote republican
Please tell me it isn't so! I've been hearing this too often lately here in Wisconsin. With our public employees under attack is this just a bullshit line to say they are getting what they asked for so why fight it or is there truth in the statement.

One person told me that eighty per cent vote against their best interests.

14. Not here in East Tennessee. Lots of Republican voting government workers.
And they fight for their benefits!

Funny, they don't see that they're voting against themselves.

2. I seriously doubt it.
At most, it might be 50-50, and in Wisconsin I would expect the large majority of teachers to vote Democrat. I don't see enough polls that specifically ask teachers their political beliefs, but I would expect some pollsters to run polls in Wisconsin now because of the crisis.

5. My son is student teaching and is amazed by how many anti-union teachers...
he runs into.

I suspect Walker is starting to change their minds though.

I am guessing he will not get re-elected if we run anyone with a pulse.

20. Some districts are 'closed shop'...
...districts. If you work there, you must join the union...and therefore get the benefits, etc.

22. It always seems to surprise people here...
...but unions are just not as popular as we wish they were. There's a ton of disinformation being spread about them, but then there's also the fact that there are some corrupt, obstructionist, nepotistic unions out there, unfortunately, and they turn people off.

3. It might be true as I have run into a few teachers I admired back in high school only to
find out after that the liberal sounding things they said in class wasn't their opinion outside of the class room. Of course I wasn't surprised because in grade school a blind girl and I had 5 teachers that said it was a waste of their time to teach us anything because we were only going to end up being a burden on society anyhow. These were Michigan schools back in the 60's and 70's.

13. Geez....I'd tell the fuckers that the true "Burdens of Society" are the Bankers..
...and other assorted money-changers.
Her Daughter has every right to have a full, nice life even if she doesn't work a day.
We Americans (Should) help and support each other...no matter what the reason is..
I'd rather part of my taxes go to her daughter than to the pricks that my dough goes to now... :)

6. I had a teacher once who voted for reps based on which party controlled the White House.
There was some bullshit about thinking that checks and balances were more important than positions. If the Dems had the WH, she'd vote Repub in congressional races, and vice-versa.

This was also before the * years, so who knows if she still does it.

10. what a moronic way to vote.
So if it was Democrats vs Nazis for power, and the Democrats held Congress, she would have voted Nazi to fulfil her checks and balance beliefs?

12. Who knows.
(You're possibly forgetting that the Republican party was pro-Nazi prior to the US entry into WWII, and much of the Republican base is probably made of neo-Nazis.)

11. Not the ones I know ...
I come from a family of teachers, and most of them are Democrats. Most of my colleagues are, too, but we are in higher education. I think there's a higher percentage of Dems there than in elementary and secondary ed.

17. Maybe retired teachers.
Lately in NJ, I've heard disparaging remarks from retired teachers, advocating for repeal of future pensions for their employed compatriots. Their attitude is "I got mine. Tough shit for you."

18. Not in my experience.
I have lived and taught in Republican strongholds my entire adult life. While there are always some Republicans teaching in a Republican community, the majority endorse and work for Democrats. I assume their votes follow their endorsements.
