Judge gets 28 Years For Kids for Cash Scam

Former Pennsylvania Judge Mark Ciavarella Jr was sentenced yesterday to 28 years in federal prison, according to the SF Chronicle, for taking a $1 million bribe from the builder of juvenile detention centers in a case known as "kids for cash." The scandal has forced the state's high court to toss out four thousand juvenile convictions. The sentence is essentially a life sentence for Ciaverella, who is 61 (assuming he serves the entire term).

One boy committed suicide after receiving one of this judge's sentences.

4. THIS TYPE OF BRIBERY is not confined to this case!

With the privatization of prison systems, I think more attention needs to be paid to the prison sentences meted out to criminals for non violent crimes. I think many more of such cases across the US would be exposed. We have become a country short on JUSTICE whether it be economic, social or criminal.
