This Won't Go Away As Much As Obama's Transition Staff May Hope.
All the prayers from the Saddleback Church of the Poisoned Mind will not change the shitstorm that Barack Obama has created with this grand insult to my GLBT sisters and brothers. This will not fade.

And all of the threads designed to dampen down our righteous anger here at the DU will not achieve their goal. We have been greatly insulted, hurt and wronged.

This is an issue for the barricades for me.

This is a really big fucking deal.

Having that sack of shit bigot stand up their mouthing off in front of the whole god-damned world while pretending to be a "man of god" with Barack Obama standing next to him is absolutely infuriating to me. It is an outrage and insult of the highest order.

I hope that I am not alone on this.

This was a truly shitty thing to have done to our community.

And I will not let it go.

1. Amen.
I'm still trying to wrap my mind around why Obama would want such a soulless, right wing agenda pusher who represents all that has been wrong with America for so long to kick off his Presidency. Not only that, he's been so very hurtful towards the gay community, some of Obama's most dedicated supporters. Dammit, his inauguration meant so much to so many of us, but this really does ruin it. Rick Warren's supporters and their ilk are the very ones who believe Obama is the antiChrist. They'll hate him no less when their rich, fat Mullah says the invocation.

16. I'm back to the Pink Triangle for my avatar. Proudly.
Yeah, his sucking up to the religious right while insulting us to the entire world will not reward him with these people.

I'm back to the Pink Triangle as my avatar. It seems very appropriate now.

2. Not Part Of The GLBT - That Said, People Should Be Allowed To Love And Marry Whomever They Choose
Case Closed - The Homophobes and Obama apologists at DU should take a hike on this one.

Your bigotry and appeasement is really disgusting!

3. You are not alone
I spent, without exaggeration, hundreds of hours working to get Obama elected. I did not do it so that he come put the Presidential stamp of approval on bigotry.

5. Thank you for saying "our community." It is a question of human rights.
This is a matter of human rights and thus involves everybody. Thank you for understanding that and being such a good ally!

9. I don't think they give a shit, David.
They probably figure it's safe to shit on us, since we certainly won't vote Republican.

(We can certainly stay home, though.)

15. I'm tempted to tell him that he needs to stop whining about losing his job,
since I have tenure and therefore unemployment is not a serious issue.

It's no more myopic and self-absorbed than what the Kool-Aid Brigade has been ladling out.

11. This is like having FDR invite Father Coughlin to give the Inaugural's invocation
Throughout the 1930s Coughlin used his popular weekly radio program--which averaged 3.5 million listeners every week--and his magazine, Social Justice, to spread his ideas and attack his enemies. From 1934 onward Coughlin's targets included Roosevelt, individual Jewish leaders, and Jewish institutions, all branded as Communists.

Coughlin, a right-wing populist, advocated a form of corporatism influenced by Italian Fascism. In 1934 Coughlin organized the National Union for Social Justice through which he argued that neither capitalism nor democracy had a future in America. In 1938 the National Union developed into the Christian Front which was even more ardent in its support of fascism and became a mouthpiece for Nazi propaganda. Subsequently, as war loomed in Europe, Coughlin supported isolationism, charging that Jewish financiers were secretly behind efforts to involve the United States in the war.

24. Thank you.
Obama did this because he thinks that GLBTQ people and supporters of human rights will always support him. Sure of our money, votes, and volunteer hours, he is offering us up as sacrificial lambs to win favor with the religious right.

That approach is doomed to fail because when we lose our bedrock principles we lose our way.

27. It will NOT go away.
I'm glad that I did not contribute a dime to his campaign.

I voted for him 'without illusion' (Professor Zinn's words); he did not take long to severely disappoint me.

I was a Kucinich supporter initially.

Hang in there, my GLBTQ friends! We will right the wrongs!

In Solidarity and Friendship,
