Honest question from a straight guy about an avatar.
I've been pretty sickened lately by, well, you read the papers. Some of the threads here on DU have just about broken my heart when I see the pain, hurt and frustration voiced by many (and the seeming indifference at times in response).

Anyway, I wanted to make an avatar for myself that showed my solidarity with my GLBT friends, but I didn't want it to be offensive (if you've ever read my posts you can see I sometimes have a problem with that).

I originally thought of having a rainbow background with "Honorary Homo" on it, but thought that might be taken the wrong way. I kind of hit an artistic dead end after that.

Any suggestions? Is there an existing avatar for what I'm talking about?

Thanks and kindest regards,

Vickers

2. How about a flag with the word Unity instead?
That way your showing support and cooperation for the common good.

7. Well maybe just ditch the avatar....? I'm a 'homo' who doesn't get exercised over
silly juvenile crap much so it's not much of an issue with me...but I'm old and pretty much seen it all by now. :-)

(I will now risk your ire by saying I think avatars are juvenile too) :-)

10. I'm not gay but I have an idea anyway.
How about 2 male symbols or 2 female symbols? On the left one, put a veil above it. On the right one, put a top hat above it. It shows support for gay marriage.

11. Thank you for your support.
The rainbow flag is a fairly universal sign of solidarity with gay folks for human rights. I like it because it signals that all people deserve all human rights.

15. Wow, those are GREAT!
Do you mind if I use them in the future?

I've already made a directory so I can save them and maybe rotate then around occasionally.

I'll put a blurb in my profile, "Avatars courtesy of Jamastiene" tee-hee!

17. I made the 7th and 8th one down from the top
last night after I saw that you had asked. Of course, you can use them. Any GLBT and/or allies on here who want to use them is welcome to.
