My respect and likening for Ellen DeGeneres grows every day
She's bright, caring, seems pretty normal, is close to her family, likes animals, supported marriage equality by marrying Portia di Rossi and fighting against Prop 8 with words and money), and, most importantly -- she married someone as committed to GLBT rights as she is. And, I betcha Portia knows how to spell and write complex sentences.

Yay Ellen!!!

2. Love her... but her show's dull.
Is there some kind of prohibition against booking guests who can speak in complex sentences?

3. Her show is not about anything complex
It's mostly about having fun and being goofy.

10. She* is* funny and goofy and a pleasure to watch.
But the late afternoon daytime tv format has changed little if at all from the Mike Douglas days ( 1960s , most of the 70s): in other words: dull and 'safe' ( in the sense of "dumbed-down").

Basically it's all about product placement and merchandizing. Ellen... though she's a genuine wit and a cultural revolutionary for her 90's prime time coming out.... has not disturbed the traditional format in the least.

For that reason I can't watch without dozzzzzzzzziiiiiiinnnng offfffff.......

11. She made ads against Prop 8, and she talks about it frequently on her show
I'm sure she also contributed quite a bit to defeat it, since her own marriage is affected by it.

12. You are right; my bad. I was thinking of Rosie O`Donnell
Ellen did an excellent job to promote a No vote. Rosie (and many other prominent -- and wealthy -- gay men and women)... not so much.

I sit corrected, and gladly. I've always liked Ms. DeGeneres. :hi:

14. Yes, Rosie O'Donnell surprised me.
As much as I like her, that disappointed me. The talent she possesses of being heard no matter what (when she wants to) could have been a real help to raise A LOT of awareness.

8. She crossed picket lines during the writer's strike.
Though there are worse things, I'll admit.

9. Yes, I really didn't like that, and expressed that on here
She's a SAG and WGA member, so that was VERY disappointing.

13. Wasn't she raised mostly in the south?
Or did I hear that wrong? If so, she may not totally understand what it's all about. Many of us from down here do not even know much about worker's rights or unions until someone teaches us. I didn't even know what a union was or even that such things existed until I was about 25 years old (1995). I had never heard of one at all before that. My friend moved down and was talking about how useless what few unions in my area really are compared to "the real thing" up north.

17. I think she's from New Orleans or LA originally.
That could be why she did it. I guess she's made up for it, in the intervening time period, given her other pro-gay, liberal activities.

16. She's kind of a kook with animals. That weird thing where she gave her dog away because
it was out of control (then she had a big crying show about it)---she'd done that a few times before. Kind of nutty, or likes the 'idea' of puppies but then doesn't grok the reality of them. No biggie, just better for her not to have them.
