My post, with the same title of the highly recommended insult to us LGBT folks got one reply and two recs. The difference, the one that DU seems to love tells us to get over it and our lives don't mean anything and my post with the same name talks about violence against us.

3. It's a vacation day?

One of my jobs (I have three) is delivering newspapers. It's quite lucrative for 1 1/2 hours a day - it's also self-employed so I'm the boss of me. The downside is the weather and the hours... I work from about 3:00am until 4:30 AM. Oh yeah -- and there's no such thing as a vacation day. I have taken exactly zero days off in 2008.

The other reason I do it is christmas gifts (gifts, not tips, LOL) from the customers. I made 10,000 last year. I'm not gonna make that this year, but I'll make about 3/4 of that amount. That's why I'll be able to buy someone a star after the 1st - to pay back the anonymous benefactor who gave me a star a month ago. Gotta pay it forward. Though I'm going to try to stretch out my christmas money until May this year.

5. winter break for us teachercreatures.

I had no idea the gifts for carriers added up so much, I'm glad to hear that ... but sheesh, getting up at that hour every day without fail must be grueling beyond belief!

6. And right now

We have a foot and a half of snow on the ground, which makes it very treacherous. I carry a shovel, sand and salt in my pick up - had to get myself out of a snowbank that I slid into and break up some ice this morning. But the bad weather coincides with the good money, so I deal.
