"The fierce urgency of tomorrow" is a mild jab against Obama that -- while funny (if we first redefine "funny" to mean somethimng more like "I really didn't put much creative effort into this") -- underscores the sad fact that the man is being held to a standard as president elect that not a single, sworn in president of my generation has been also held.

Give the guy a break. He hasn't saved the world yet - I KNOW, but he doesn't have any constitutional powers to speak of either. Furthermore, the man is better spoken, with a greater reservoir of ideas, and a greater talent for bringing dissenting voices together, then a whole Whitehouse full Internet political quarterbacks on Monday morning.

3. Not exactly true

Clinton was held to that standard, and was punished by the "just wait" crowd and the heterosexists for that audacity.

So what you're saying is that in 16 years, we have made absolutely no progress. That kind of kills the "just wait" argument that sometime in the future things will be better. When the "progressives" can't see the value in progress, then just how long should we have to wait? A couple more centuries? Maybe until your generation dies out and a future one comes along that's not quite so full of apologists for the status quo?
