I am, Luminous Animal. I've lived in the Castro neighborhood of San Francisco for 21 years and I have raised my daughter (now 18 years old) here. This is my 'hood and my community. I am a bi-sexual and I identify politically as a bi-sexual and I've been in a straight relationship for 20 years. I have, off and on, been an LBGTQ community and poverty activist. I was at the forefront of including "queer" into the lexicon. I've been an activist more off than on years of late, given the general apathy, outside of some anti-war gatherings, of activism in San Francisco. Most of my activist history has been around direct action; from taking over the Board of Supevisors in order to pass a progressive agenda, to supporting welfare mothers, to sending dykes to DC, to expanding AIDS/HIV services in prisons and jails, to saving the San Francisco Rape Treatment Center, to support services for queer youth. I was one of the original organizers of the (originally totally underground) San Francisco dyke march (good times, oh good times!).
Some of you here, from this DU group, have acknowledged my tenacity in the GDP section. Thanks for that! One of my major interests, as an activist, is fighting misrepresentation and disinformation. And it is pissing me off that the DU LGBTQ community and their supporters are being misrepresented by that ever vague "some people say" Fox news standard of discourse.
Thanks for listening.
-Luminous Animal.
Edited to remove an extra "T" where, clearly, an extra "T" did not belong.
