Might any of these 'new' words describe you?

While reading through many of the threads here this morning I was often struck by the thought "You just don't get it!" Some of the individual posts in the longer threads amazed me, especially on a supposedly progressive board like DU.

I took a much needed break and just happened upon the results of a word contest sponsored by the Washington Post. Simple rules: take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition.

Here are just a few that reminded me of some of the 'less enlightened' posters at DU:

2. Ignoranus: A person who’s both stupid and an asshole.

5. Bozone ( n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.

8. Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the Person who doesn’t get it.

14. Dopeler Effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when
they come at you rapidly.

I posted these just to offer a bit of comic relief, but I think some of them are quite descriptive of some of the posters here.

here's a few:

Gay-matter: A body which holds a pro-gay civil rights political ideology.

Anti-gay matter: A body which fights a pro-gay civil rights political ideology.

Queerk: A type of sub-atmic particle that generates an attractive force to other sub-atomic particles of like charge.

The Pauli queerk exclusion principle: stating that no two queerks of the same flavor can ever simultaneously occupy the same bed.

Special relativity: The principle of alternative families, dwelling in the same universe as traditional families (see queerks).

The Heisenberg queerk uncertainty principle states that the legal values of certain pairs of conjugate queerks (equality and visiblity, for instance) cannot both be known with arbitrary laws.

The fourth law of thermodynamics is an expression of the universal law of increasing equality, stating that the equality of an isolated system which is not in equilibrium will tend to increase over time, approaching a maximum value at equality equilibrium.
