MILK!!!!!! YES!!!!
I've been crossing my fingers since I saw Milk that at least Sean Penn would be nominated for Best Actor but secretly, I wanted a sweep of nominations and we got 'em! Even if no one wins (many will, but Josh Brolin sadly will not, not because of his performance but because he has the misfortune of being up against Heath Ledger), this is going to get a major re release and will become even more mainstream and the timing couldn't be better with Prop 8 in our faces. This could push gay rights way forward. I am so psyched.

By the way, since it seems to be necessary disclosure in this forum these days (Why I wonder?), I am heterosexual.

1. They got the third most nominations
but considering the total lack of famale roles for nomination it is very impressive. It is close to a lock for screen play and has a fairly decent shot at both actor and picture. It almost for sure has costume and has a good shot at director.

2. Costume confuses me, actually
I didn't see anything all that flashy or out of the ordinary for the time. It seems like a period piece would be more likely to pull that one, wouldn't it? While I don't like what the real man did, Josh Brolin was amazing in his portrayal and it's sad, though appropriate that he will lose to Heath Ledger, not because of Heath's being dead but because he did do an Oscar worthy performance and died, that combo guarantees him that Oscar.

3. the 70's is a period piece
and they did it fabuously. I think their only real competition is Austrailia in that regard.

4. It's a great movie.
I really hope some of the kids at school see it. They could use some help in learning how to get a community activated, and it's really all spelled out there MULTIPLE times. Plus, they get some history of the movement, about which they have no idea.

6. I saw Milk yesterday.
I remembered reading about the "twinkie defense", but didn't know the back story. I also remembered Anita Bryant on all the channels, but really too young and ignorant to pay too much attention to the details.

Milk moved me. I sobbed, I wanted to shout at the screen. I was emotional. I held it in until I got to the car and just sat there and cried.

Let's hope that the viewers realize that inequality is not an American value.

7. I thought Milk was easily the best film of all those nominated this year...
and hopefully it should win. After all, they owe us after Brokeback Mountain.

9. SAG Win is a good step for Penn
Penn's speech was pretty good, I wish he had gone a little more into the unfairness of Prop 8, but I can't fault him for wanting to thank people.

11. I did like Penn starting out by thanking his "comrades"
and then saying that was for O'Reilly.

10. I am so happy about Sean's SAG and the 8 Oscar nominations!
I was PISSED when "Crash" won over "Brokeback Mt" a couple of years ago.

I don't think "MILK" will win, this is a great honor.
