A question on the rainbow thing.
Something has been bugging me in the back of my mind for a long time, and I think about it whenever a gay issue comes up so I figured I would finally ask people who would know.

I used to work with this guy years ago, a real religious nut, that had all these rainbow things in his office and on his car. One of them said "de colores" on it. I just googled "de colores" and it says

http://www.westshoredecolores.com/
http://decolores.com/store/

Something about "4th day communities".

I always thought the rainbow banner was a GLBT sign. What's the deal?

1. I think I just figured it out.

Looks like DeColores is a pro-GLBT religious group. Strange that Googling did not produce more relevant results.

3. The rainbow represents a lot of things to different people
The context I remember most about is with the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cursillo">Cursillo movement, popular within Spanish-speaking Catholic communities. One of the movement's anthems was the folk song De Colores, which was often "summarized" as a rainbow. In the same context, the rainbow represented the covenant between God and man put in place after the Flood, when God promised never again to destroy the whole of humanity.

The rainbow's link to the gay community came with the invention of the rainbow flag for the 1978 Gay Pride march in San Francisco.
