Police Listed Gay Rights Group Among Terrorists
Police Listed Gay Rights Group Among Terrorists
Lisa Rein

Equality Maryland, the state's largest gay rights group, was among the peaceful protest groups to be classified as terrorists in a Maryland State Police database.

The group was designated a "security threat" by the Homeland Security and Intelligence Division, which also kept dossiers on dozens of activists and at least a dozen groups. Police kept files on Equality Maryland's plans to hold rallies outside the State House in Annapolis to press for legislation reversing the state's ban on same-sex marriage. They plan to purge the files.

:wtf:

I've been searching and I can find no history of violence for this group. Can anyone fill me in on just why they were classified as terrorists?

1. If only we could live up to our reputation
Then MAYBE something could be done about securing our fundamental human rights.

3. Christian and Mormon pulpits preach the most hate and intolerance in this country
They should be the ones listed on terrorist databases.

7. No.
They give invocations. :eyes:

Let's take the "P" out of prayer and put it where it belongs, according to cultural conservatives: Power.

4. WTF???
This is seriously fucked up, especially hearing this is coming from Maryland, a solidly blue state. The Democrats in charge of Maryland's government should address this outrage now, and publicly.

5. my guess is
they were classified as terrorists by homophobic right wing assholes who hoped then to use the designation as an excuse to interfere with the group's activities. any legitimate reason? fuck no

is this the same state that came out apologizing for having designated political groups, anti-war, lefties, as terrorists? i read something to the effect a couple weeks ago i think.

8. This was under a Republican governor.
There is a bill pending to ban any similar activities by the state police in the future. Other than yelling loudly at those rallies in front of the State House and then, horrors, talking to our legislators, we don't do anything dangerous. All we threaten is the status quo.

We were back on this past Monday, and we will be back until the entire GLBT community is protected from discrimination and until we have equal marriage rights.
