Planned anti-gay demo falls flat

Fred Phelps and his daughter Shirley Phelps-Roper from the Westboro Baptist Church were banned from entering the UK to protest against a play in Hampshire.

They had urged a picket of Queen Mary's College in Basingstoke over the staging of The Laramie Project, a play about a man killed for being gay.

But only one protester arrived and was heckled away by counter-demonstrators.

When I start imagining what I'd like to see done to Phelps and his oldest spawn, (they are almost worse than he in a few cases) I realize that I should not write stuff like that, even in my novels. So I have to go back and re-edit. most of the time.

The ones I pity fall into two categories. His youngest kids populating his brood (how quickly does he destroy their independent thought process?) and the family members of those fallen, who only wish to say goodbye, only to find themselves under virtual attack from Phelps, et al.
