PepsiCo Gets in Bed With Rockstar, Michael Savage
http://www.advocate.com/news_detail_ektid73414.asp

PepsiCo announced Wednesday morning a multiyear distribution deal with the makers of the energy drink Rockstar, prompting calls among gay rights activists for a company-wide boycott.

Rockstar was co-created by Dr. Michael Weiner, better known as conservative radio host Michael Savage, who has often broadcast antigay tirades, referring to gay callers as “sodomites” who should “get AIDS and die.”

His equally conservative wife, Janet, serves as the company’s CFO, while his son Russell -- cofounder of the Paul Revere Society, which campaigns for the deportation of all illegal immigrants -- serves as the CEO.

Savage has been equally outspoken on issues including abortion and autism, once defining an autistic child as “a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out.”

1. Easiest.Boycott.Ever.
I only drink Dr Pepper. I do drink Mountain Dew once in a while, but can do without it for years. Is PepsiCo the same as Pepsi?

2. So the homophobes are boycotting PepsiCo because it's pro-gay-rights,
and the gay-rights activists are boycotting PepsiCo because it's anti-gay-rights.

I believe this is the first time I have ever heard of the opposite sides of a political fight simultaneously calling for a boycott of the same company because that company is supporting the opposite side.

4. And I still haven't cut the act out!
Savage has been equally outspoken on issues including abortion and autism, once defining an autistic child as "a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out."

This "straight but not narrow" person with autism agrees: Savage Weiner is gutter slime! (his true and actual name is "Michael Weiner") :grr:

8. But yesterday we were told to buy all the Pepsi we could!...
It's time to buy all the Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Aquafina etc that you can........
..... to spite the American Family Association, which is launching yet another boycott to punish a company for its support of the infamous "gay agenda."

9. Wait wait wait
You mean Pepsi's primary concern isn't a social agenda, it's (gasp) MAXIMIZING PROFITS!?!?! egadz, can't have that.

18. Let me apologize for my poor choice of words.
"Agenda" is indeed a loaded word. I used the word for its denotation (as in, "something to be done"), not its connotation. My point was that Pepsi, like all corporations, does what it does in order to maximize profits. They don't particularly care about the larger implications of what they do.

I take heart, then, in the fact that most corporations give benefits to gay couples. They don't do this out of the goodness of their hearts, but rather because they recognize that their gay employees have the same utility structure as straight ones, and thus it's optimal to compensate them in the same manner.

21. I had Rockstar once
I got it out of a machine in a desperate attempt to stay awake early one Saturday morning at the office.

It tasted HORRIBLE and made my pee look radioactive. Seriously, it scared the fuck out of me. Never touched it, or another "energy drink" since.
