Talking Points
The Stonewall Inn, a popular LGBT bar in the Greenwich Village section of New York City, was raided by police in late June 1969. The resulting protests were a vivid demonstration by LGBT people of their resolve to publicly resist government harassment and discrimination. These actions, collectively referred to as "Stonewall," helped inspire unprecedented activism for LGBT rights and fair treatment. For these reasons, Stonewall occupies a rightful place in the history of the LGBT ommunity, and of the nation as a whole.
