Alfred Lankenau had lunch this week at Vic's Expresso Bar, a gay-friendly cafe Downtown. Then he went next door to Out Word Bound, a gay-oriented bookstore, to buy his sister a birthday card.

Small and large businesses alike want Lankenau's money. He's one of an estimated 15 million gay Americans companies hope will buy their products.
