The tough side of being gay
(A fairly sympathetic article out of Indiana)

Many teens face depression, ridicule, harassment, abandonment and even suicide when they choose to publicly admit they are gay or bisexual.

They enter a world that is not always accepting.

People do not always understand or respect their sexual orientation. Some hate them, and others want to condemn them for going against religious beliefs.

<snip>

One parent, who would not give her name, said her son is not gay even though he says he is. Homosexuality goes against the family's Christianity and they do not accept it or support him, she said.

(Gotta love that comment by a parent. Denial ain't just a river in Egypt!)

1. No quicker way to kill your child huh?
What the hell would make a parent choose religon, what people will think of them, or what ever over standing up for your child? I will never understand that as long as I live.

3. It's 'post-modern martyrdom'
It used to be that when a child came out in a religious family it would cause turmoil, but eventually the child would be accepted as the parents questioned their religious beliefs. There's a book called "Prayers for Bobby" in which a strongly religious mother comes to terms with her son's struggles with being gay after he commits suicide. (Granted, it was too late for her to make peace with her son, but she did come to understand and speak out against the spiritual abuse her religion practiced.)

Now parents choose religion over their children and toss their kids out just like Alan Keyes did to his daughter. For them it's a sign of martyrdom ... like their faith is so strong that they will sacrifice their child to uphold their religion's teachings.

2. /Sigh
BECAUSE they believe in fairytales from 2000 years ago, in an imcomplete book FULL of contradictions, they choose to ignore reality. Reminds me of the lyrics for John Lennon's - Imagine. If we KNEW this was all there was, we'd treat everyone a helluva lot better.

How can these people that do this call themselves christian is beyond me. Alls i know is that my god loves everyone regardless of thier orientation. Jesus said for us to love our neighbor without exception. Man these people that worship the red god have got to grow up.
