That is all. It doesn't even need a punchline - it's its own punchline.
I used to be homesick for San Francisco (lived there ten years) but now I'm really happy I'm back home in New England. New England is where it's at - and I'm glad I'm a New Englander born and bred. If I wasn't lucky enough to be born Norwegian or Canadian, New England ain't bad.
California? Joke. Between Arnie and all these crazy assed ballot initiatives, California is a fucking joke. It's its own punchline. I hope they remember that you reap what you sow - since they like to make laws based on a book of fairy tales.

1. But now the courts will undoubtedly be asked to rule on the legality of unequal marriage... |
|
and THAT will be overturned. The proposition was legal. It sucked, but it's the way they are there -- I lived in LA for 18 years.
So there may be a silver lining here.

2. Anything can happen in California if you get enough signatures |
|
That is the root of all of our problems. This direct democracy does not work.

The number of idiotic ballot initiatives that take place there is astounding. I think we came closer than we realized to the same shit in CT last year. There was a call for a Constitutional Convention by the usual suspects (fundies, other asshole right wingers) that was very well funded by all kinds of "conservative" foundations and fundie groups.
Luckily the voters here were smarter than they were when that traitorous POS Joe Loserman won as an "independant" and it was roundly rejected. For a short time the "yes" polling was higher than the "no" but finally people realized what a yes vote really meant.

4. Florida is not far behind. Our constitution is a garbled mess because... |
|
of amendments taken to popular vote. Our state constitution actually legislates the size of a holding pen for a pregnant sow. Worthwhile legislation, but in the constitution?!
