3. Was there anyone there other than LGBT protesters?
For LGBT issues, there would be DADT and DOMA, both of which I expect to see gone by the end of his first term.

If there were other protesters there with other issues, it's easy to see why he would not necessarily know which promise he was being asked to keep.

"'One of them said, 'Obama keep your promise,’ ' the president said. 'I thought that’s fair. I don’t know which promise he was talking about.'
"The people in the audience – who paid $30,400 per couple to attend – laughed as they ate a dinner of roasted tenderloin, grilled organic chicken and sun choke rosemary mashed potatoes."

This visual makes me want to vomit. The fanboys over at GD-P loved his little quip.

8. Sounds like some of them were at the fundraiser ....
Comments from protesters:

I was in the crowd outside the Beverly Hilton yesterday afternoon. You wanna know what I found truly odd? When the crowd exited the hotel...the same crowd that reportedly laughed at Obama's little joke...the majority of them had to stand on the sidewalk for several minutes while their cars were brought around to them. We were directly across the street from them and there was little traffic on Wilshire to block us from their view. And of ALL those people, Democrats and supposed liberals, I saw only two, TWO!, instances of that anyone from that crowd showing support to us. Once was when a late middle aged couple raised their fists in support of us. And once was when J.J. Abrams, the director of Star Trek and creator of LOST (among other things), was basically forced to acknowledge us because the crowd was shouting his name. Disgusting.

7. How hard is it to advocate for what's right? How hard is it to demonstrate real leadership?
Hope. Change. Hope. Change. Hope. Change. Hope. Change. Hope. Change. Hope. Change. Hope. Change. Hope. Change.

Can we change the mantra to leadership and justice? It's far more substantive.

:grr:

11. I'm willing to have some patience.
But he should be a better advocate. The problem is larger than Obama. The Democratic Party nationally needs to embrace full equality, including marriage equality. I expect to have ENDA, hate crimes, don't ask don't tell repeal and other victories by the end of this congress. If these things don't come to pass, then there's a very serious problem, because the votes are there.

13. Yep. We need to work on congress to overturn DADT, now, while
we have a majority that can pass the legislation.

The repubs can't argue with it because that will make THOUSANDS of discharged gays eligible for re-instatement at a time when the military is in dire need of them - it's one thing to support DADT, and let gays be discharged one at a time, and quite another thing to block legislation that stands in the way of manning a couple full battalions when there are people over there on their third rotation.

And if congress leads with it, Obama WILL sign it.

25. Isn't it sick?
And the GD-P crows are defending him over this.

I don't expect to have DOMA, DADT or Prop 8 overturned tomorrow or even by the end of the year. BUT I DO expect the President to treat us with respect and not hushed like some bratty kid wanting attention.

It's funny how when Bush was in office and they stories of the gay and lesbian solders who could speak and translate documents were thrown out under DADT ............... oh SHIT hit the fan. But now it's "well we have to give Obama time".

Lt. Choi is a perfect example of why DADT need to be thrown out NOW! He spoke at the rally in question. What does Obama do? Makes a joke about it.

30. Oh don't let the cheerleaders hear you say that.
Ya know this HURTS. A LOT. I still support Obama. My family does as well. This is coming from a hard core group of Hillary supporters.

I'm not saying he's going to nothing for us. I think he will. But his track record so far sucks. (Donnie Mac, Ricky poo ....). This brush off was another kick in the pants.

Oh but per one of the cheersleaders I'm "rehashing the primary" if I bring that up. This comes from the biggest hasher in the place.

Not ONE! NOT ONE of them in that thread can respond to the question "If Bush did this ....".

33. I supported him from the beginning
Voted for him in my caucus, gave him money throughout the campaign, went to two of his events.

I expected him to be more thoughtful about our issues, less hardened to one particular viewpoint. Even through the McClurkin mess I wasn't that worried, although I wasn't happy that he didn't address it. It took Warren to make me realize just how big my mistake was.

Email sent in response to Carville fund raising email.

----

I'd be happy to meet with him or send him money as soon as he makes a statement of support and starts acting on his promises to the GLBT community.

Let me know when he decides we are of value beyond getting elected.

Jeff

26. the fanboys are out at Kos, too
Somebody posted a diary about this and was not only savaged, but the #1 recommended diary up there now is a passionate defense of O-Man. Seems he was responding to ANOTHER protest buried amidst the big crowd of homos. Or so they say.

I love having straight people chastise us for being 'sensitive'.

31. here is his entire quote
"There were some protesters out here. I could hear them-vaguely. I don't know what they were protesting. I think there was a group of them. But one of them started to chant "Obama, keep your promise" and I thought, that's fair. I don't know which promise that he was talking about. But I thought to myself, you know, I like that."

The people who were chanting were protesting about the Armenian Genocide.
