The anti-gay hategroup Article 8 Alliance sent out an alert today.

It seems Romney vetoed money for gay rights protections for public school students.

The Mass. legislature is set to over-ride Romney's veto, and the anti-gay hate group doesn't want to see that happen.

So, thanking them for the heads-up, let's all call the Mass. legislature and ask them to over-turn Romney's veto.

Protect the rights of gay and lesbian children in Mass. public schools.

EVERY ONE OF YOU NEEDS TO MAKE A PHONE CALL RIGHT NOW!

Rep. Robert DeLeo, Chairman of House Ways and Means Committee

edit: Article 8 Alliance gave an incorrect phone number. The correct number is listed below:

Office: 617-722-2990
Home: 617-846-3612

Tell him to override the Governor's veto of the money for these important gay-rights and student protection programs

Budget items 4590-0250 and 7010-0005.

Mass. Gov. Vetoes Gay Commission Raise
Gov. Romney votoed a proposed 40 percent raise for a publicly funded gay and lesbian program. Christian leaders say all funding should be cut.

Monday, Jul. 4, 2005 Posted: 8:08:29AM EST

Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney vetoed a proposal to raise 40 percent of public funding allocated for gay and lesbian youth programs Thursday. However, some Christian educators are saying that is not enough.

“I’m disappointed that the governor wasn’t willing to stop the funding completely,” said Fin Laursen, Executive Director of Christian Educators Assoc. In'tl. (CEAI).

The funds are earmarked by the Massachusetts Departments of Health and Education for the Governor's Commission for Gay and Lesbian Youth (GCGLY).

GCGLY was created in 1992 in response to a slew of suicide among gay and lesbian youth. Its main role is to create school and community-based programs focusing on suicide prevention, violence intervention, and the promotion of zero-tolerance policies regarding harassment and discrimination against gay and lesbian youth.

2. Yes, I posted this in the Mass. forum
and someone there asked me if I also posted it in the LGBT forum.

Sorry, I usually remember to label my posts as cross-posted when applicable.

I've been in a hurry.

3. Oh, you mean The Mitt Romney Assisted Suicide Initiative?
Filthy little fucker. :grr: I just wrote my Rep. this morning -- he's an asshole, but it's essential to keep the pressure on him.

THE MITT ROMNEY ASSISTED SUICIDE INITIATIVE
Scoundrel gov’s cuts have more to do with South Carolina than Massachusetts

By PAUL MCMORROW

Three weeks ago, the state legislature balanced a $23.9 billion budget and sent it to Governor Mitt Romney’s desk. Romney signed off on the budget one week later, trimming $110 million in appropriations because, he said, the programs were wasteful or ineffective. Then he boarded a jet and flew to Utah.

Talk of Romney’s 2006 presidential aspirations has so saturated local discourse that most Bostonians now take it for granted that the governor’s actions—crisscrossing the country to raise money, attacking the local judiciary, damning Pike Chair Matt Amorello and parsing US trade policy with China—have nothing to do with them and everything to do with building a resume for the 2006 primary season. Accusing Romney of selling out Massachusetts residents for naked political ambition is like accusing him of breathing—no shit he is, but what’s your point?

(snip)

And boy, did this year’s budget vetoes deliver.

Romney cut almost $1 million from teen pregnancy prevention programs—nearly half the programs’ entire budget allocation. He cut $100,000 from the $350,000 budget of the Governor’s Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth, and he eliminated both money and language in the Department of Education’s (DOE) budget for GLBT suicide-prevention programs.

4. Seems like someone in that state
should take a lesson from the fundies and start gathering petitions to have Mitt's sorry lying butt recalled.
